Do you have the energy to do what you love?

Did you know that burnout is the number one reason why you may not be manifesting what you want?  It has nothing to do with effort, education or your ability to visualize it. It has everything to do with the fact that you don’t have the energy to create what you want to create.

If you have been living a life that is not aligned with the truth of who you are, you have spent a lot of energy trying to be someone you are not.

When you’re burned out, you won’t attract the things or people you want to. You won’t have the energy to do everything you need to do.  Burnout is an energy state that keeps you from being fully, joyfully and passionately engaged with life. It keeps you from expressing your authentic potential and making your unique contribution to the world.

Our society says that we shouldn’t rest…but we are all designed to rest.

I have many personal stories of being burned out. Sometimes I haven’t even been able to take care of my health or my house, let alone delve into my passions or add value to the world in a way that only I can.  I am a Human Design Generator. If there is one thing I have learned, it’s that if I am not doing what I love – really, if I say yes to things I really want to say no to — my body tells me in a big way! Also, in the long run, something I said ‘yes’ to but didn’t love might stress me out so much I might not finish it anyway. We are all here to bring our special gifts to this earth and we all deserve to rest and take care of ourselves. 

Do you want to know how you can tell if you are burned out?

Burnout can show up in a variety of ways and is a state of chronic stress that leads to physical and emotional exhaustion, cynicism and detachment, and feelings of ineffectiveness or feeling stuck. (pyschology today)  It doesn’t happen in an instant; rather, it builds over time and therefore often goes unnoticed until it’s too late. Saying ‘yes’ when I want to say ‘no’ eventually leads to a major rebellion from my one and only body.

Possible physical symptoms of burnout:

  • Feeling tired and drained most of the time
  • Lowered immunity – i.e. you get colds more
  • Frequent headaches, back pain or muscle pain
  • Change in appetite or sleep habits

Possible emotional symptoms of burnout:

  • Anxiety
  • Loss of motivation
  • A cynical or negative outlook
  • Self-doubt and sense of failure
  • Feeling helpless, trapped, defeated
  • Decreased satisfaction and sense of accomplishment

Possible behavioral symptoms of burnout:

  • Procrastination, resistance
  • Avoidance
  • Shutting others out
  • Taking out frustration or anger on others
  • Failing to show up for work or showing up late

Do you identify with any of these symptoms?

Don’t worry! You aren’t stuck. You can heal burnout. You may imagine that the only way to heal burnout is the popular notion of “self-care” — spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on messages, beach getaways or even just spending days at a time lounging at home in a silk bathrobe. But, you don’t necessarily have to quit your day job to heal yourself.  Resting is not the only thing that can resolve burnout. Human Design is a huge help in that it shows you possibilities of where you may be taking in other people’s energy.  This can cause you to take on inauthentic energy without realizing it.  We lose energy when we are not being true to who we are. If you are not being who you are, you can be burned out in a different way.  It’s not just about doing or not doing — it’s about alignment with your Self.

Burnout has everything to do with living as your not-self.  What I mean by that is you’re doing something or being someone that is not true to who you really are.  The more someone lives in-authentically, the greater the pain, suffering and chance for physical illness. 

It takes more energy to resist being you than to actually be in alignment.  It is easier to resist in the short run, but then you get burned out! Burn out eventually pushes you into alignment.  How? Your body doesn’t hate you! Your body wants to be healthy and whole and it’s goal is to bring you there no matter what. Illness that comes on as a result of being totally burnt out can knock you out of living as your not-self and bring you a fuller and more beautiful life.

Burnout can be healed.
