Do you want to honor your kids for who they are while making your life as a parent easier?
You can learn to understand your child – who they are and what they need to stay resilient and self-reliant in the world.
Loving your kids is one of the fiercest and most powerful love experiences in the world. It’s likely the only relationship where you would throw yourself in front of a car to save them without a second thought.
The perspective we have on raising kids is often based on our various forms of social conditioning. Naturally, we bring our own biases to the way that we parent through our value systems and the way that we ourselves were raised. Sometimes, we are simply hungry, tired or stressed and our children see us at our worst. Human Design helps you approach parenting differently. It gives you a new and balanced perspective based on the truth of who you are and the truth of who your children are. It empowers you to recognize how you operate energetically to parent your children in a way that is more honoring and respectful for everyone involved.
Human Design is like a map for your life. It is a powerful tool that grants you permission to be yourself in this life. When you entered this world, you were your most authentic self. But along the way, well-meaning parents, teachers, and society told us who we should be or how we should act. We may have learned to put on masks to please others, but that ends up causing us pain.
Knowing Human Design as a parent helps you take care of yourself so you can be ready to react appropriately for your kids. It’s the place to start. However, as adults, we may have a lot of work to shed what is not ours because we have been conditioned for many years. Without learning about your own Human Design you may pass your own conditioning onto your kids without meaning to.
The blessing that comes from learning about your kid’s Human Design is that we, as parents, can avoid conditioning our children to be who they are not. We can make their life easier and they can become more confident in how they navigate the world. This also makes our lives easier as parents.
All of our kids are very different from one another. It is important as a parent to know about the design of your kid so you can really see them for who they are and honor them for it. If you’ve guided your child through their decision-making process, you can relish in the joy of watching them flourish with their own decision-making as they grow into adolescence and adulthood.
Do you want to give your kids permission to be more of who they are & less of who they’ve been told to be?
The first step is to learn about your own Human Design Type as the parent. You need to understand how you work as well as how your kids work. Generator kids are here to provide the workforce energy to the world by doing things that truly get them excited. Generator energy is sustainable and is rooted in the sacral center.
- Connecting with the Sacral and Self-trust
The sacral is all about workforce and life force energy, and asking your child yes or no questions keeps their sacral energy turned on. Giving them options will only confuse their sacral. Some examples of good ways to phrase questions are, “Would you like to brush your teeth?” “Would you like to have an apple?” rather than, “What do you want to do?” or “What do you want to eat?” Giving them yes or no questions like this empowers them to make choices that excite them and make them happy. The answer they need is already inside them, but as children, they will need help practicing this.
Generator children are born with their sacral turned on but often have that light dimmed by conditioning. A Generator kid is made to be lit up and excited by the things they are doing. Keeping their sacral energy active gives a Generator child a great deal of self-trust which will be very important for them as they grow up and make more and more important decisions. As a parent, teaching your Generator child to trust themselves and their sacral response is truly a gift to the world.
- Waiting to Respond
One of the best things you can teach your Generator kid is to wait until they are recognized to respond or speak. You’re not teaching them to stay quiet or to dim their light. Rather, you are teaching them to save their energy for times when it is recognized. For example, you can teach your child to stay quiet in class until the teacher gives them something to respond to. When the Generator child is comfortable in their own energy, the teacher won’t have a problem recognizing that and will naturally call on them to share their answers. If they wait to be recognized, they will be. Speaking without being recognized can lead to frustration because what they’re saying may not be well received.
Generator children have a stair-step learning curve. They may find they are very good at something in the beginning and then hit a plateau and feel stuck and frustrated. You can use yes or no questions such as “Do you want to keep going?” or “Do you want to quit baseball?” to find your child’s true answer despite any frustration they may be experiencing. Once they’ve given you their answer, help them learn to stay true to their sacral response by either pushing onward with the activity or quitting it depending on their answer. The interesting thing about the frustrating plateau is that mastery is often just on the other side of it. A great resource for young children experiencing Generator frustration is the book “Frogslime — A child’s guide to calming down”.
Learning techniques like the ones in this book or others like meditation and breathing exercises can help a generator kid get through this frustration.
- Attention and Lovability
Setting aside time to be with your Generator child, specifically doing what they want to do makes them feel loved and fulfilled. Parents’ reinforcement of their worth gives them the recognition that they crave so much. When a Generator kid is not recognized for their gifts and talents, they may unconsciously move towards getting revenge on those who have not seen or heard them, even if it was unintentional. Scheduling a specific time to make sure your full attention is on them is excellent preventative medicine for the Generator child’s soul.
- Play and Sleep
Generator children have a lot of energy. If they are not physically tiring themselves out during the day, they may have trouble falling and staying asleep. They need a lot of physical play time so that they have a chance to wear themselves out — with all of the electronic devices today this can be a challenge. Teaching them to regularly move their body from a young age will help them know for themselves how good it feels.
Essential Oil Recommendation for Generator Children (and Parents of Generators!): Peppermint to dissolve frustration!
Manifesting Generator kids are similar to Generator kids in that they have a sacral response. However, they fall into their own category due to some nuances that make them special. They are also here to bring their workforce energy into the world. While a pure Generator is designed to do one thing at a time, a Manifesting Generator is actually designed to skip steps and/or be working on more than one thing at a time.
- Connecting with the Sacral
The Manifesting Generator child is much like the Generator child, as they are both Generator types with a defined sacral. The sacral is all about workforce and life force energy, and asking your child yes or no questions keeps their sacral energy turned on. Giving them options will only confuse their sacral. Some examples of good ways to phrase questions are, “Would you like to brush your teeth?” “Would you like to have an apple?” rather than, “What do you want to do?” or “What do you want to eat?”
Giving them yes or no questions like this empowers them to make choices that excite them and make them happy. The answer they need is already inside them, but as children, they will need help practicing this. Once they’ve made their decision, let them know it’s okay for them to skip steps and to do multiple things at once. They may be told in their life, “Choose one thing and stick to it!” but this is not necessarily correct for an MG. Help them trust themselves and learn to follow their own unique flow even if no one understands it.
- Attention and Lovability
You won’t need to give quite as much attention to a Manifesting Generator child as you would a pure Generator. They have more independence like the Manifestor child, so make sure they learn to inform you (and anyone else they may affect) of what they are about to do. Despite their Manifestor independence they still do need attention and recognition for who they are. Like Generator children they may channel their anger and frustration into getting revenge for not being heard.
- Decisiveness and Trusting Themselves
Manifesting Generator children are born with their sacral turned on but often have that light dimmed by conditioning. An MG child is made to be lit up and excited by the things they are doing. Keeping their sacral energy active gives them a chance to learn to trust themselves.
Like a Generator, they should wait to respond to something outside of themselves before acting on a decision, but they should also envision the possible outcomes before they act. As a parent, it is very helpful for you to help them with this as it is not easy to slow a Manifesting Generator down. Help them slow them down so they can think “What would happen if” – it’s very important for them to stop and imagine this to respond in a more effective way. And, like a Manifestor, before they act, it is beneficial for them if they inform anyone who may be affected by their actions.
- Balance of play and rest
Manifesting Generator kids will need a lot of play time and exercise to wear themselves out during the day. With all of the electronic distractions available today it can be easy for them to spend too much time being stationary, but if they don’t tire themselves out during the day it will be very difficult for them to fall asleep at night. You may also find that they are unable to stay asleep through the night. This is due to all of the built-up, excess energy that hasn’t been released during the day.
Because of the amount of energy a Manifesting Generator naturally has, you may find that your child wants to participate in more than one athletic activity. For other children, choosing one sport or activity to focus on can be good, but for an MG child, it’s okay to be doing many different things at once. If you ask them if they’d like to try a new activity and their sacral says yes, then it’s a great idea to try it out.
- Frustration and Anger
Manifesting Generator children can experience both frustration and anger as emotional themes. When they do not envision their potential experiences or when they don’t inform about what they’re going to do, they can become angry when things don’t work out. Others may also become angry at them; for example, their school teacher may become angry when your MG child walks out of the classroom without asking because they needed to get something out of their backpack in the hallway. The frustration comes most when the people around them are not going as fast as them or trying to slow them down. Again, teaching your MG child how to inform and making sure their sacral says “yes” before acting will relieve a lot of their frustration.
Knowing yourself as a parent is just as important as knowing your child. Know your limitations, know the nature of your own energetic design and become comfortable with who you are. The most important gift you can give to your child is your own full self-actualization. If they see you do it, they will believe it’s possible for themselves.
Learn new parenting strategies. If you don’t like the way you were raised or your own default societal patterning, then embark on a journey of experimentation. As with anything new, it will take a little practice and time, but it will be well worth it. You and your children alike deserve to fully enjoy life as your unique, authentic selves.
