How to use essential oils to enhance the Human Design Throat Center gates

If you already know about the basics of the Human Design Throat Center, this information will cover more specifics and include essential oil ideas that can be leveraged for support.

There are 11 gates in the Human Design Throat Center

Do you know that energies in the Throat Center in Human Design have voices?

Regardless of whether you have an Open (Undefined) or Defined Throat Center, if you have individual gates Defined (colored part way) within your Human Design Throat Center (see picture), you will have a more specific way of sharing things.  Your respective voice(s) will depend on which specific gates are defined in your chart. Your chart will indicate the personalized way that you present your communication based on your Human Design. Your communication style can come from your actual voice and it may also be shared by the words you choose, the art you create, your brand, or anything you put out into the world.

The Human Design gates have specific means of sharing information using your voice and you can choose to enhance and make the communication process easier using specific essential oils.

GATe 16 is an amazing voice of enthusiasm.

In Human Design, Gate 16 has a voice that is enthusiastic. When you have Gate 16 defined in your Human Design chart, you share information with intense and eager enjoyment or approval. You exude energetic interest. This is a gift to others and most people love to be around this kind of voice.  When you are not feeling enthusiastic or you tend to bring something down or criticize (instead of lifting things up), essential oils can help.

Wild Orange is the essential oil for abundance, the crux of enthusiasm. Diffusing Wild Orange is a way to share the oil and lift the spirits of anyone in the general vicinity.

Gate 62 is a grounded voice of practicality.

In Human Design, Gate 62 is a voice that shares in a practical way. You can share what is likely to succeed or be effective in real circumstances versus just theories or ideas.  People need to hear this voice, especially when they have a lot of grand ideas or inspirations coming in and they are confused by what to do with them.

Sometimes you may be swept up in the idea that things need to be fantasy or surreal, but the grounded voice of Gate 62 is needed for balance. If you are feeling ungrounded in what you are sharing, try smelling Lavender essential oil or rubbing a few drops onto the bottoms of your feet. Lavender essential oil helps you speak your truth.

Gate 23 is a present, real-world voice of innovation.

In Human Design, Gate 23 has a voice intended to talk about innovative thoughts and ideas. When you have Gate 23 defined in your Human Design chart, you can tease out the critical and relevant pieces from something that is new or innovative. Without the helpful interpretation of the Gate 23 voice, the idea might just come out as weird. If you wait for the right timing, Gate 23 can be a very influential voice that helps the world move into the future.

If you are need support in letting go of what is not needed and tuning into what you can logically share, try Lemon essential oil. You can inhale the fresh scent of Lemon essential oil and be able to focus on important issues while releasing unneeded toxic thoughts.

Gate 56 is a fascinating voice of storytelling.

In Human Design, Gate 56 is a voice of teaching through stories. You likely share through metaphors and stories and you may be the creative initiator of experience where your story becomes everyone’s story.

Lessons are shared from generation to generation through stories and metaphors help us understand and integrate the lessons of the stories. Everyone else gets to be the person in the stories through the virtue of the story – everyone’s individual experience can become our own – collective – it’s why stories move us so much. Stories we share are sacred and deserve to be recognized and invited out of you. If you tell people stories when you are not invited, you may come across as boring.

If you want to express your stories in a clear and articulate way, try using a few drops Spearmint essential oil. Spearmint essential oils helps you tune into what you really want to share and inspires clear and confident verbal expression.

Gate 35 is a TRANSFORMATIVE voice of experience.

In Human Design, Gate 35 has a voice that allows you to meaningfully share what you have done or what you have experienced in life. You may enjoy experiencing different adventures in life and collecting experiences just so you can share them. Gate 35 covers an expression via an experiential way; it’s not about being masterful but it’s about having experiences and sharing them. Your path could be through adventures, travel, or just every day experiences in your life.

If you want to share your experience in a meaningful way, try smelling Doug Fir essential oil. Doug Fir teaches about learning from and valuing experiences and it reminds us that there is valuable wisdom in experience.

Gate 12 is a voice that channels the divine & connects us.

In Human Design, Gate 12 has a voice that can be an articulate wordsmith because it plugs into the super consciousness. You have the capacity to “channel” simply being plugged into a higher awareness that comes naturally for you. The Gate 12 voice has a moodiness to it as it connects to emotions. You may be “in the mood” and be very bold or you may “not be in the mood” and be very shy.  When the mood is right, and the right people are listening, the Gate 12 voice is very creative and expressive and can sometimes described as romantic.

If you want to deepen your connection and communication with source/super consciousness, try Ylang Ylang essential oil. Ylang Ylang connects you to the intuitive way of receiving information and shows you more clearly what your heart already knows.

Gate 45 is a voice of natural leadership.

In Human Design, Gate 45 has a voice that says “I lead” others into using their resources better. Gate 45 is the voice that might feel like a CEO or a King/Queen and is an amazing ability to teach and transmit information.  The Gate 45 voice has a beautiful energy for being up in front of the room however it is not a democratic leadership; your voice may tell others “this is how it’s going to be” in a digestible way.  The Gate 45 voice needs to come from a place of service to the higher good or it may feel like a “diva” energy or a voice that wants to control others in a dysfunctional way.

To connect with the nurturing, guidance and protection needed with this energy, try rubbing Frankincense oil onto your wrists or feet. Frankincense is literally the King of essential oils and it helps you let go of low vibrations that might keep you stuck in a place of negative ego instead allow you to connect with the truth.

Gate 33 is a voice that tells stories of the past.

In Human Design, Gate 33 has a voice that tells what has happened before or what happened in the past. You could be a story keeper, you remember, a ritual keeper, a historian and a secret keeper. The Gate 33 is the energy of an observer and holds on to the story until it is asked to share. Hold until the timing is right, or you will just be blabbing secrets. You have a voice that can transmit stories of the past when you are recognized. Because the stories are rooted in experience and can be about sharing rituals, your voice may say “I remember”. Your Gate 33 voice maintains memories from the past and shares them with the world when the timing is right.

If you want to deepen your connection to source, try using Siberian Fir essential oil. Siberian Fir helps you sort out the patterns and traditions from the past. Some must be let go of while others can be positive.  It can bring light to what needs to shared so that patterns that are negative or damaging can be broken.

Gate 8 is a confident voice making a difference.

In Human Design, Gate 8 has a voice that says “I make a difference”. The Gate 8 voice is very expressive about making a creative contribution to the world. You want to use your Gate 8 voice to get things done, make a difference and create change in the world.  You will give creative direction when you are asked for what you have to share; all you have to do in the meantime is be yourself and “walk the talk”. When the energy of the Gate 8 voice is used correctly, it is inspiring and creates change by leading by example.

If you want express your creative or unique spirit, try diffusing Tangerine essential oil. Tangerine essential oil encourages joy, creativity and spontaneity and brings about abundance of creative energy that flows into the heart and manifests in the real-world.

Gate 31 is powerful voice of democratic leadership.

In Human Design, Gate 31 has a voice that expresses natural leadership. The Gate 31 voice is chosen by others to share (i.e. elected by the collective verses something like a king/queen) and is a voice that needs to be recognized to be effective when offers service to others. When the Gate 31 voice is chosen to share it can be mind-blowing by demonstrating the highest potential for human unity in a singular direction; serving, delegating and allowing everyone to be heard.  To be of highest service, let the group you are leading tell you how they want to be led. Your voice represents the people you are leading while you are simply the figure head.

If you want to let go of the need to control and deepen your awareness of those you want to serve, try a few drops of Cypress essential oil. Cypress helps you flow with the needs of those you serve.  It allows things to unfold more naturally for the good of the whole.

Gate 20 is influential unifying voice.

In Human Design, Gate 20 has a voice that is about unifying other people and gathering them around ideas. The Gate 20 voice can unify others to possibilities of the future, but it’s an energy to be used in the present. You have the capacity to know what skills, talents and gifts of people around you and your voice has the power to organize and unify the energies together. Gate 20 can be a magical voice if you wait to be asked or recognized. In contrast, when around certain energies/people this voice can bring out a sharp tongue. You have the potential to either tear people down or powerfully lift them up with your voice, which do you choose?

If you want to deepen your connection to what is or who is around you, try Marjoram essential oil. Marjoram teaches trust, warmth and connection so you can unify others for the greater good.

Every gate has something to offer and I have learned to appreciate how I can contribute using the power of my personal gates. For further information, you are invited to check out my Instagram & Pinterest content. I hope that this was helpful and that you can make enhance your connections in the world.

Human Design Throat Center Basics: Communication and Manifestation

The Throat Center in Human Design is the energy for communication and manifestation.

The power and importance of words are central to the creative process. It’s difficult to do things without being able to explain them using words. How the throat is configured (e.g. which gates are defined) will determine how someone is able to manifest and is able to do and what they talk about. Your voice is characterized by the particular way that you speak.

If you have an Open (Undefined) Throat Center (indicated by a white colored square near the throat in your chart), you have the natural ability express things the way that best meet the needs of who you are communicating with at that moment (.e.g. Oprah becomes the voice for the room when she goes on stage). The Open Throat is designed to remain silent until it is recognized, invited or asked to be heard. When the Throat Center receives pressure from societal communication energy, it is not connected to anything which results in feeling pressured to talk. When you have open centers (indicated as a white box on your Human Design Chart), you take in other people’s energy(ies) and amplify the energy more extremely; (e.g. you may talk excessively at a party).

Often people with Open Throats will say they feel invisible however your purpose is to be wise about communication and action. You need access to energy in the Throat Center by being recognized or asked. If you misuse your throat to get attention/recognition, you can blow out your thyroid, throat or voice. The key to success with an Open Throat is to be quiet in order to be seen and heard.

If you have a Defined Throat Center (indicated by a black colored square near the throat in your chart), you will speak about different things or maybe from a different angle or voice depending on what other Human Design Centers are connected (indicated by a solid line) or what other gates are defined in your particular Human Design Chart. All Manifesting Generators and Manifestors have a defined throat (is this true?) and some Generators have a Defined Throat.

Generators and Projectors with Defined Throat Center still need to be recognized in order to effectively be heard when they talk because they do not have a “motor” to your Throat Center.  The motors include the Will, Emotional Solar Plexus, Sacral and Root Centers: if you are not invited or recognized first, you will not be heard if you just blurt things out – like opinions, stories, your feelings, etcetera. Being recognized is just being asked a question or asked for your opinion or recognized for the value you have to offer in some way.

You can find out if it’s okay to talk about something if you simply say something like “I have an opinion on this, do you want to hear it?”.   Sometimes your relationship helps with the recognition; for example, if you are a coach or counselor and you have something to say, you are already recognized in the relationship and can offer your ideas.  But if you try to do the same thing with your friends/family without knowing if they actually want to hear your opinion, it can be taken as criticism or they may just be annoyed. If you are doing something online and people have followed you, you are likely recognized for what you are putting out there.

When you have a defined Throat Center, it is considered to be defined because it connects to another Center. To give more context, the Throat has broader connections based on which Human Design Center is connected.

For example, if your Throat Center is connected to your Ajna Center:

I SPEAK MY MIND

A defined Ajna Center (colored upside down triangle) indicates that you tend to speak your mind when asked. It is still important to “wait to be invited” to communicate most effectively.

I SENSE

A defined Spleen Center (colored right pointing triangle) indicates that you tend to speak about what’s healthy for you and what you sense and feel on a physical, visceral or intuitive level. You are best heard when you are invited to share.

I AM WHAT I TALK ABOUT

A defined G/Self Center (colored diamond below throat) indicates that you tend to talk from the depth of who you are which can make you vulnerable to criticism. You are best heard when you are invited to share about yourself.

ME-ME-ME

A defined Will/Heart Center (colored upwards pointing triangle below throat) indicates that you may start sentences with “I” and talk about yourself a lot. You have the potential to display your ego in a negative way, but it doesn’t have to be seen negatively if you are in a place to surrender who you are to serve something bigger than you individually (i.e. you can provide resources for other people). Sometimes people may shut you down by saying “stop talking about yourself” but this is how you were designed to share and you have huge potential to serve the world. You can initiate your sharing (i.e. you do not need to be invited).

I FEEL

A defined Emotional Solar Plexus Center (colored left facing triangle) indicates that you will talk about what you feel and can freely talk about emotions. You can initiate your sharing and when people are around you they feel they can also talk about their feelings.

I WORK AND RELATE

A defined Sacral Center (colored in square below diamond) indicates that you can talk about work and relationships. You are best heard when you wait to be asked to share.

I DO

A defined Root Center indicates that you will talk about what you do or what drives you from a personal perspective. If your Root Center connection makes it to your Throat Center (square near throat) you can initiate conversation and make your voice heard.

This information covers the basics of the Human Design Throat Center and when it is important to be recognized before sharing communications. The different motors including the Will, Emotional Solar Plexus, Sacral and Root Centers have different intents and values which were covered at a high level.  If you are interested in learning more about the specific voices of each gate in the Throat Center and which essential oils you can use to support them, please go here.

How to Travel best based on your Human Design Type

Written by Human Design Tools & Essential Explorers

5 tips to travel by Human Design using essential oils

Do you know your Human Design Type? Get started by running your chart or continue reading to see if one particular travel style resonates with you or your travel companion(s). Learning about travel styles can improve your overall travel experience by understanding how your type prefers to behave when out of your normal routine. Learning about how others you travel with can help with planning, reduce conflicts and hopefully make the experience positive for everyone!

The five Human Design types (Generators, Manifestors, Manifesting Generators, Projectors and Reflectors) use their energy and rejuvenate in different ways. Generators and Manifesting Generators may react to a sign for pizza and immediately get a slice when a Projector may wait for an invitation to join others for piece of the pizza pie.

Human Design tools for travel could include an essential oil (or more!). Essential oils can support mood changes or reduce frustrations often encountered while traveling out of your normal environment.   Get more travel tips and ideas on instagram @essentialexplorers

Generator Travel Tips

  1. Ask a question: Generators need something to respond to so ask the question “Do you want to go to Italy?” and see how your gut reacts. It is probably a “yes!” or “no way!”. Listen to your gut.
  2. Plan: Keep things simple and plan up to three things to start. Aim to accomplish a few things each day and then take the rest of your time and see how you are feeling in the moment. Do you want to rest? Go to another point of interest? Take a break and get some local foods or beverages? You need a plan to get started but may not want to pack in too many activities to enjoy them. If one of your traveling partners is a Manifesting Generator, they will likely want to do more things than you in a day so you will have to decide if you want to join them or not. Hint: Don’t go along if you really don’t want to go as you will end up very frustrated!
  3. Listen to your belly: Eat what you want! Your body will let you know what you want to eat. If you are having trouble deciding, ask yourself “Do I want to eat here? Do I want to eat this?” and your body will likely react one way or the other.
  4. Move your body:  Move your body during the day and you will sleep better at night. Take advantage of your location and walk, ski, bike or swim your way through your days. You can still relax but make sure you squeeze in some active time as well.
  5. Pay attention to your energy: To avoid frustration when you travel, take a deep breath and maybe even take a sniff of peppermint essential oil (or use a swipe of the Breathe® vapor stick – easy to pack along). Managing your frustration along the way can help before you arrive a wild, irritated mess at your destination. A little self-care and some sips of water can go a long way.

Top 3 essential oils for a Generator

  1. Peppermint oil lightly rubbed into your temples (taking care not to get in or near your eye) or even just sniffed can help reduce frustration and help shake off those negative travel vibes.
  2. doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend boosts your immunity system to help your system stay healthy during your travels. Who doesn’t need a little extra help on those dirty airplane trays? The On Guard® Blend also comes in a convenient spray bottle to easily disinfect surfaces as well as your hands. The doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend has
  3. Wild Orange helps lift your energy to enjoy the journey as you travel to your next destination or explore at your vacation location. You can also use Wild Orange to add a fresh scent to your hotel room and it disinfects, too! Get Generator oil travel kit.

Manifesting Generator Travel Tips:

  1. Ask a question: Manifesting Generators (like the Generator) need something to respond to so ask the question “Do you want to go to Italy?” and see how your gut reacts. It is probably a “yes!” or “no way!”. Listen to your gut. Manifesting Generators also need to inform others of their travel plans and intentions (as part of the Manifestor style of travel). Manifesting Generators are a unique combination of two diverse types and therefore have characteristics that make them their own special style.
  2. Plan: Go and try! Trying new things (and many of them) is one of the Manifesting Generator travel specialties. Your energy type can go and go and go… far more than any other Human Design Type. Take advantage and explore to your heart’s desire… just don’t expect your non-Manifesting Generator travel partners to join you the entire time as they may need to take a rest to catch their breath.
  5. Pay attention to your energy: To avoid frustration when you travel, take a deep breath and maybe even take a sniff of the Breathe® Respiratory Blend of essential oils (or use a swipe of the Breathe® vapor stick – easy to pack along). Manifesting Generators are also prone to anger so be aware and try to manage your stress along your journey to keep your body in balance.

Top 3 essential oils for a Manifesting Generator:

  1. doTERRA Breathe® Respiratory Blend can be used to help reduce and dissolve angry and frustrated feelings that are inevitable while travel (think getting on an airplane or standing in line!). Easy to pack and use is the Breathe® Vapor Stick but you can also just add a drop to your hands, rub together, cup and take a deep breath.
  2. Wild Orange helps lift your energy to enjoy the journey as you travel to your next destination or explore at your vacation location. You can also use Wild Orange to add a fresh scent to your hotel room and it disinfects, too!
  3. doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend boosts your immunity system to help your system stay healthy during your travels. Who doesn’t need a little extra help on those dirty airplane trays? The On Guard® Blend also comes in a convenient spray bottle to easily disinfect surfaces as well as your hands. Get MG oil travel kit.

Projector Travel Tips:

  1. Be invited: Projectors need an invitation to join activities for them to feel validated and accepted; travel is no exception. You do not need to rely on another person to do the inviting though, perhaps you receive an email with a travel deal invitation or see a social media post that “invites” you to visit in person.
  2. Plan: Aim to do one thing per day. Making sure that you take enough time to rest your body lying down (at a park or your hotel). Beach vacations have this built in as you lie on a towel for much of the day.
  3. Eat small meals or light snacks:  Don’t overload your digestive system. Break your food up into small amounts so that you can properly digest over time. You may not want to sit down for a meal (like a Generator might) but you should just eat whenever you are hungry.
  4. Rest: As mentioned above, pay attention to getting enough rest. You need to discharge energy from outside sources and people so give yourself some alone time to let thing settle down so you can enjoy your day. Try to lay down 30 minutes prior to your desired bedtime so you can be ready to fall asleep.
  5. Pay attention to your energy: Don’t try to keep up. If you are traveling with Manifesting Generators, or even Generators, ride along on their energy for fun and then take care of your rest, even if you have to miss out on some of the activities.

Top 3 essential oils for a Projector:

  1. Lemon heightens energy and can help remove toxic energy (if needed). There is a reason that it is called the “Sunshine Oil”. Take a sniff or add a drop to a portable diffuser (or a cotton ball, in a pinch).
  2. doTERRA Digest Zen® Digestive Blend helps digest actual food as well as an overload of energy and information from being in an unfamiliar environment. Rub a drop or two onto your belly (or dilute it with some local olive oil or coconut oil if you have sensitive skin).
  3. doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend boosts your immunity system to help your system stay healthy during your travels. Who doesn’t need a little extra help on those dirty airplane trays? The On Guard® Blend also comes in a convenient spray bottle to easily disinfect surfaces as well as your hands. Get Projector oil travel kit.

Manifestor Travel Tips:

  1. Find inspiration: You are the only one (of the five Human Design Types) who can have an internal or external inspiration and just go out and do it! Enjoy your freedom and just go!
  2. Plan: Follow your inspirations. You may want to plan ahead or just see how you feel in the moment. Depending on your personality and potentially your travel partners, try different ways to explore and see what works best for you. You might do a lot when you are traveling and then rest and recover once you return home.
  3. Eat small meals or light snacks:  Don’t overload your digestive system. Break your food up into small amounts so that you can properly digest over time. You may not want to sit down for a meal (like a Generator might) but you should just eat whenever you are hungry.
  4. Rest: Pay attention to getting enough rest. You need to discharge energy from outside sources and people so give yourself some alone time to let thing settle down so you can enjoy your day. Try to lay down 30 minutes prior to your desired bedtime so you can be ready to fall asleep.
  5. Pay attention to your energy: Manifestors have two energy cycles (burst/retreat) and need to manage your energy over time. You have a lot of energy during the burst cycle and then need to withdraw and rest during your retreat cycle. You can decide if you want to be really active on your vacation and then retreat to recharge when you return home.

Top 3 essential oils for a Manifestor:

  1. doTERRA Breathe® Respiratory Blend can be used to help reduce and dissolve angry and frustrated feelings that are inevitable while travel (think getting on an airplane or standing in line!).
Get Manifestor oil travel kit.

Reflector Travel Tips:

  1. Reflect over one moon cycle (29 days): To decide where to go as a Reflector, you need a full moon cycle of 29 days to make the choice. You may choose to talk about your decision with your family and friends and also ensure that your travel partners do not stress you out (as you reflect your community).
  2. Plan: If you prefer, aim to do one thing per day.

Human Design Shapes & Definition

What do the colors in the shapes mean in Human Design

“What do the colors of the shapes mean?” or “why are some colored and some are white?” are  some of the first questions you might have when you are looking at your Human Design chart .

The first thing to know is that it doesn’t matter what the actual colors are (i.e. red, brown or yellow), they either have a color or they are white.  If they have a color, they are called “defined” and if they are white they are called “undefined” or “open”.

They are two different ways that you feel energy, you either feel it consistently or you feel it in a variety of ways depending on your surroundings.

What does it mean to be defined?

When the shape is filled in on your Human Design Chart it is considered defined.  It’s a consistent way of living out an energy.  It’s what you radiate out to the world. It’s what others perceive you have.  You are broadcasting the information out.  Think of a radio wave where you are sending out the words you are sharing.  In the Human Design Chart energy you don’t actually have to be sharing the information verbally. For example in your Human Design Head Center (the center for inspiration) if you have it colored in or defined then you are inspiring others.  You broadcast out the energy that is represented by the Center it is coming from.

broadcast and human design defined centers radio

The challenge is being open other perspectives or ways of doing things for the energy of that Center.  For example if you have a defined Ajna Center (the center for data processing and storage) you may have learned how to do something a certain way – maybe you learned how to load the dishwasher from one of your parents.  You may think it’s just they way you do it, it’s consistent.  However, you move in with a roommate and they load it a different way. At first you may not believe there is really another way to do it, but there are actually many ways.  So, if you have a defined center, just be aware that if you get stuck, you may just be stuck in doing something, or thinking about something they way you always have. If you can open yourself up to new ways of doing things – and even ask someone who has that center undefined/open for their perspective, they may be able to see if from many different angles.

What does it mean to be undefined ?

When the shape is not filled in or is white in on your Human Design Chart it is considered undefined or sometimes this is called open.  In your undefined/open centers you may feel the energy differently depending on where you are and who you are with.  This is because you are you take in energy from others and amplifying it.  The open centers are where you take in energy and information in from the world around you (you get the energy from others) and you amplify it.  You can have a potential for deep wisdom to know others, but you will also have a predictable energy behavioral pattern that can cause pain if you aren’t aware of what is happening.  Once you become aware of what your open centers mean, you can realize what is yours and what is not.

For example, if your Emotional Solar Plexus (the center for emotions) is undefined/open, you are an emotional empath.  This means you can feel other people’s emotions – even more intensely than they do.  If they are happy – you might feel really happy, if they are sad – you might feel even sadder than they do.

recieve and human design undefined centers

The challenge is knowing what energy is yours and what is someone else’s energy.  If you are not aware that you might be taking in energy from others, you can be really confused or you may feel pain in some way.  Adding on to the example above, if you are taking in someone’s emotions you might be like “what in the world, why am I so sad?”

Or if you have an open Human Design Head Center (center for inspiration), you are taking in inspirations and ideas from other people.  You may think they are all yours and you need to go act on them, so you will feel pressure you to answer other people’s questions, you may waste time or get frustrated if you are acting on inspiration that is not for you.  If your Head Center is open, all the ideas are not for you, you should only follow the ones that come to you according to your Human Design Strategy – i.e. if you are a Generator, wait for a sign or if you are a Projector, wait for an invitation.

When you have an undefined center, be open to thinking and feeling others’ energy as a gift. It’s possible you will know others better and be able to empathize when you feel their emotions if you have open Emotional Solar Plexus Center.  It’s possible you can just think for the sake of thinking or be inspired for fun and not act on everything if you have an open Head Center.  It’s possible in every center for a gift of receiving energy from others.

If you are having pain from the energy in the undefined or open centers, I have two possible ideas to support you.  You can think of yourself as a screen door and not a sponge.  You can let the energy flow through you and think it or feel it for a short time and then let it go.  If you are unaware you are taking in others energy you often unintentionally act like a sponge and take things in and keep them as though they are yours. I encourage you to find out where your open or undefined in your chart and see if you can find out what the energy is all about for that center and then just be aware of that energy.  Eventually you will become more and more of a screen as you are more and more aware.

Another option is to just leave the physical space where you are feeling the energy. If you are in a room and feel angry and it just comes on and you don’t know why, step outside or even just step into another room for 15 minutes.  You essentially break the auric (energy around each person) space and you can let the other’s emotions dissipate.  You can then enter the space again with a new awareness that the emotion is not yours.

9 Human Design Energy Centers

Human Design Centers what do they mean_ (1)

Do you wonder what the shapes in the Human Design Body Graph mean?

There are nine Energy Centers in the body graph and they each show how you process information.

9 Human Design Centers Explained

You can also feel the energy in the nine Human Design centers in a defined or undefined way. Defined (colored in)  is felt in a consistent energy, it’s what you radiate out to the world. Undefined (white) is where you take in energy from the world around you and amplify it.

  1. Head Center – Inspiration and ideas and it is a pressure center.
    • Defined = Inspiration force on the planet. Only 1/8th of the population have it defined.
    • Undefined = Pressure to figure things out and influenced by ideas of others.  Use your Human Design Strategy to figure out which ideas to take action on.
  2. Ajna Center – Concrete thinking, data processing, data analysis and storage
    • Defined = You have a built in filing cabinet, information goes in and sticks. Fixed way of thinking.
    • Undefined = Can see things from many perspectives.  Can struggle for certainty, but you can always see it things many ways – so there is no need to hold onto fixed ideas and beliefs.
  3. Throat Center – Communication and manifestation. The power of words and importance of words as the creative process. If you don’t use your Throat Center correctly, there is potential for burnout.
    • Defined = You speak in a specific voice based on what gates or channels are defined in or connected to your Throat Center.  For example, if your Ajna Center is connected to your Throat Center, you will speak your mind.
    • Undefined = You have a natural ability to express things in a way that best meets the needs of who you are communicating with.  You will be heard better if you are recognized.
  4. Self /G Center– Love, identity and direction. It is what you are here to do.
    • Defined = You have a fixed sense of direction and sense of self – who you are and you can either embrace it or resist it. Your “why” may be something you have known since you were little.
    • Undefined = You are more flexible with your life path.  You deeply understand love and may love in many different ways.  Your “why” may change daily and you can struggle if you try to be on one set path.  You need to be in the right place with the right people.
  5. Will Center – Values, ego and willpower.  This is sometimes called the Heart Center.
    • Defined = You have a fixed set of values and you have willpower. Only 1/8th of the population have it defined.  You work to rest, so make sure to build in cycles of rest.
    • Undefined = You are here to be wise about what is truly valuable., but until you understand this, you may undervalue yourself.  You do not have consistent willpower, you may run on fumes of energy from others, but you need to rest.  Even though society tells us to push through, it’s not true, you are designed to rest and re-source.
  6. Sacral Center – Life force and workforce energy. It’s the energy for sex, seduction, feeding and raising your children. Work is discovered through responding.
    • Defined = You have sustainable workforce and life force energy.  Even if you dislike what you are doing, you can force yourself to keep going. So follow your Strategy and do what lights you up.  You will get burned out if you do too much of what you don’t want to do.  70% have it defined.
    • Undefined = You can take in life force energy, but you don’t sustain it, so you need to take breaks.  You will work in cycles according to your Human Design Strategy. You are wise about management of energy.  30% have it undefined.
  7. Spleen Center – Time, intuition, health and instinct for survival.  They are a reactive response to help you survive but we don’t need many of these animal instincts in our daily life, so we then just experience  them at fears that can keep us stuck.
    • Defined = You have a defined way of receiving intuition.  You have a strong immunity, but you may not realize you are sick until it’s too late and then you get really sick.
    • Undefined = You have varied ways of receiving intuition.  You are highly sensitive and can be medically empathic – where you feel others’ health. You may struggle in society’s definition of time because you can get lost in time.
  8. Emotional Solar Plexus Center – Emotions and creativity.  It’s the energy for romance, poetry, seduction, war, intimacy, marriage, nature, spirit, abundance and imagination.
    • Defined = You have emotional waves that osculate up and down.  You have to wait for emotional clarity when you make decisions.  The wave is all about emotions – it’s outward creativity on the top and inward reflection on the bottom.
    • Undefined = You are an emotional empath, you can feel other people’s emotions.  You may avoid truth and conflict because it’s hard to feel strong emotions – especially if they are negative.  Be a screen, not a sponge – let the emotions go right through you and not get stuck.
  9. Root Center – Adrenaline pressure and stress.
    • Defined = You have pulses of adrenaline that turn on and off.  It can be hard to do things when the pulse is “off”, but when it’s “on” you have a burst of adrenaline.  You do alright with stress.
    • Undefined = You are under pressure to do things, you might even have a never-ending to-do list that you maintain because when everything is done, you will be free. Your list will always be there, so just ask yourself every day, what is the worst thing that will happen if I don’t do this today? Usually the answer is nothing!

You will also notice that if you look at your own Human Design Chart, some of the Centers are filled in with color and some are white. This is what is called definition and you can read more here.

Human Design General

What do the Human Design circuits mean?

Do you know a little about Human Design, but you wonder why you would need to know about the circuits? I had the same curiosity and started digging into what they mean and how they could be applied to my life (or yours).  I don’t think it will change the way you do things per say, but it might give you an understanding of why you are an important piece in the puzzle of humankind.  We all express these energies in our life and they make the world flow, evolve and grow.

The Human Design body graph is made up of lines with interconnected energy that make up circuits – like the wiring in your home. Each circuit brings different energies and behaviors to each of us individually to help humanity evolve and each circuit does this in a different way.

Your Human Design Body graph can tell you what way you are here to help in this evolution. You may have just one; two or you can have all three types of circuitry.  There Human Design Circuits including individual, tribal and collective.

I understand the circuitry in your Human Design chart showing HOW you fulfill your part in human evolution during your life on earth.

You may be here to inspire change by simply be yourself (individual), or by caring for a group of people close to you (your tribe) or by sharing with the whole (the collective)?  Would this be something helpful or interesting for you to know about yourself? It was for me.

You are here to be different - individual circuit-human design (1)

Individual Circuitry is about activating change on an individual level.  It brings something different to the world and inspires change within others. The change is activated by “being” yourself.  Individual circuitry is made up of the centering (link) circuit, knowing (link) circuit, and integration.

Someone with individual circuitry discovers a new idea or new way of doing something.  It can be seen as “out there” at first.  They then bring the idea to their community (tribe of family – friends – classmates – coworkers etc.) and the community tests it out to see if it’s viable.  If it is validated and can be repeated, it will be adopted and passed along to the collective.

Do you feel misunderstood? Or maybe like people just don’t get what you are saying half the time? If you have a lot of individual circuitry in your body graph, you may feel alone at times because you have all these great ideas, but people are not always ready to hear them and understand them – but there’s nothing wrong with you.  Actually the more confident you are in being the “weird” one, the more you allow others to be themselves.  You can transform the world by being yourself.

Do you remember the song from Sesame Street: “One of these things is not like the other; one of these things just doesn’t belong?” This is the song that comes to my mind when I think about individual circuitry.  I personally feel like the one that doesn’t belong sometimes, but it’s a good thing. You cannot live out your destiny if you are trying to fit in. You are here to be different – so be yourself! If you are a parent to a kid with a lot of individual circuitry, it is important to support your kiddo’s full expression of their uniqueness.

My story of individual circuitry:

I have found that I don’t fit into the collective idea that work should take place during specific hours of the day (like 8-5) or in a specific way (like butt in seat at the office).  Some people do not mind this or may even like it, but it does not feel right for me.

I spent years feeling like I didn’t fit in, almost alone and definitely burned out and frustrated. At some point I had an epiphany of what I needed – more flexibility and more balance with my family life.  I then spoke up and asked for more flexibility, ability to work from home or working less hours so I can spend more time with my family.  The rules of the collective (corporation in this case) were stronger than my desire, and I was told this was not possible while I was an employee. My idea was definitely seen as out there.  Many of the employees had been working at this corporation for 30 years and had never asked such a thing.

I finally realized that the only way I could be more of myself was to leave my job and do things differently. So that’s what I did. I had to take a break, which is a risk of course, but I was able to return to my job in a different role – as a contractor. This allowed me to work in a way that is right for me.  I am not bound by the same rules of the collective at the corporation. It gave me (as well as my boss honestly) more freedom of choice in how I contributed to the team.

Human Design Individual Circuit example

I’m now able to pull together something I call a portfolio career. I work a set amount of hours at my corporate job which helps me contribute financially to my family.  I am free to also share things I love like Human Design and essential oils that fulfill my heart and mind in a different way.  I also have flexibility in where I work, I can work from home, a coffee shop, sometimes in the office and I can even work in my bed if I wanted to.

Can you see how if you have individual circuitry that you can make more change in the world by just being yourself…rather than trying to change other people’s minds? Even though this was an individual shift for me, it has expanded into tribal energy, which is the next step in evolution.  Now, my friends and coworkers are inspired by what I have done and are now asking me how I did it. I was not doing this with the purpose of changing the mind of someone else, or even the larger organization; I was simply being myself and doing what is right for me. In being myself I’ve inspired others to do what is right for them.

Human Design Tribal Circuitry - tribe (1)

Tribal Circuitry is about caring, reproduction (and raising kids), work and allocation of resources.  It is about the people close to you, your family, neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers, employees, and etcetera. It is made up of the defense circuit and the ego circuit.

Tribal energy cares deeply about others in the community and feels responsible for them. It is the energy for marriage, agreements, business and education – all the things you might need to have babies and raise them, protect them, instill values and educate them – although you don’t actually need to have your own children to use this energy.

Tribal circuity is not logical; it’s about sustaining and protecting your community. If you live out the tribal circuit in a low expression, you can become co-dependent and put others needs before your own.

My story of tribal circuitry:

I have lived out the low expression of my tribal circuitry by being in co-dependent relationships and friendships in my early years. I put others needs in front of my own and I became deeply burned out by not valuing myself and my needs enough. To transform into the higher expression: it’s like the concept of taking the oxygen mask for you first.  I have now learned through many painful experiences that I need to “fill” my cup before I can give fully to others.

Human Design Tribal Circuit Mama Bear Tribe

Knowing a little more about how my Human Design works, I can now live out the higher expression of Tribal Circuitry. I have amazing tribes within my immediate and extended family as well as lifelong friends, where we care for each other deeply.  But, what I’ve been even more surprised by is that I have found a wonderful community with the parents who have kids the same age as mine.  Let’s call this my “Mama Bear” community. It’s a community that allows me to fill my cup but also deeply care for others.

Raising kids today is demanding and my cup cannot always be full on my own. Don’t get me wrong, it can be super joyful too, but you can’t do it in a silo, you need support. (P.S., if you are reading this and you are a single parent, I give you even more admiration!)

Parents in my Mama Bear community believe that it’s okay to do things different than what we might be told by social media, magazines or even from older generations.  We have been told that women can do it all – and that we can do it within our individual household silo.

My Mama Bear community recognizes the value of being supported by others outside our household that are going through the same thing.  We can share the load, we can watch each-others kids, we can drop in to each other’s houses when we need connection – or a break.  This is similar to how it might be if we lived in a communal space, or like a family or a tribe might do. We have our own little village. Having a village of support is not a new concept, but it’s not emphasized enough in current society.  I am on this earth to deeply care for my community of friends, even if we are not tied by blood or societal norms.

Human Design Collective Circuitry (1)

Collective Circuitry is about survival of humanity on a larger scale.  It is bigger groups of people or ideas like government, organizations, large ruling bodies and it is about knowledge, logic and experience.  It is made up of the sensing circuit and the logic circuit.

Everything starts as an individual idea, then the tribe adopts it and then it becomes part of the norm.

The collective speculates what’s to come next based on lessons from the past using logic.  It also reflects the potential and possibilities for the future and shares inspired stories and ideas. This circuit is about timing – the collective has to be ready to accept the new ideas.

The collective spreads the adoption of new ideas from the tribe and they become adaptive and eventually become the norm. Everything that is normal today in our collective society was once a weird individual idea! Think of the lights in our home that we take for granted and how one man made profound impact on society.

My story of collective circuitry:

Sharing Human Design is my most recent example of Collective Circuitry.  Most of the practitioners (like me) that are diving deep into the understanding of Human Design likely have some individual circuitry.  We may be seen as weirdos or woo-woo by some for sure.  But Human Design has been adopted by many communities/tribes.

Human Design Collective Circuit Example

I believe you are reading this post is because of collective circuitry. I definitely have the energy to share with the collective. It’s in my soul, I can feel it.  But more importantly, I think  it is because the collective is ready to hear about Human Design because it is helping people get out of pain – so the timing is right.  For me it’s not something that I try to get people to believe, it’s just a tool that has the possibility of making a difference in your life for a better.  It is a place in the collective where the world can have more understanding and acceptance for others for who they are.

I have an inner drive to share Human Design with as many people as possible (the collective) that I learn that help me have an easier, happier, less stressful life or just new information that I think is complex and can be translated in a more practical way.  For me, sharing things online is sharing with the collective. I have the opportunity to inspire a large group of people who are outside my individuality and my tribe.  I gently encourage everyone on this entire planet to be more of yourself. We are designed to be different, but we all fit as a piece in the bigger puzzle.

I hope this helped you a little to demystify the circuits a little.  Everyone has the potential to live out the highest expression of all of the energy in their Human Design charts and we are all here to do different things.

Human Design Planets

womanplanetslong

Did you get your Human Design chart and wonder what in the world do all the little symbols mean?

The symbols on the Human Design chart represent planets.  The planets influence how we play out different aspects of our chart depending on what number (gate) is next to them in your chart.

Human Design Practitioners often don’t bring up the planets right away because you need to follow your Human Design Strategy for your Type before you can fully benefit from the information contained in the planets.  You can find out your type here.

Are you curious to know more about the planets anyway? I will share what I understand to be the practical influences of the planets and what they might mean to you.

First, you may have asked yourself, why are some red and some are black

Planets-Blog

The planets  on the left side of the chart that are RED are your unconscious planets. This means that they are things about yourself that other people may know because they are part of your personality, but you may not realize yourself.

The planets on the right side of the chart that are BLACK are your conscious planets.  They are likely things that you know or realize about yourself.

Basically each planet has a different influence on your life and how you are meant to live it out.  I will not get technical here, I am not an Astrologer. I’m just going to share the practical influence of each planet from my understanding of them.  If you want to do your own digging, you can also look up the gates (numbers) that are next the the planet symbols and see what your specific energy in that planet is all about.

Your Sun is what you put out into the world

sun

The Sun is Yang and is the most expressive aspect of your personality. It’s what you put out into the world. This will be the first impression that others have of you.

Your Earth is what grounds you

earthblog

The Earth is Yin and is what grounds you.  It is about receiving, taking in and integrating. Investigating the gates of your Earth is a good place to start when you are trying to heal, because the energy of the Earth influence makes you feel more grounded.

Your North Node is the theme of your life age 40+

Northnodeblog

The North Node is the theme of your life for the second half of your life, it is felt more strongly during this time.  This is the time to breath out – expression of your wisdom. It flips to your North Node theme at around age 38-42 (from your South Node theme) when you go through your Uranus opposition.

Your South Node is the theme of your life age 0-39

southnodeblog

The South Node is the theme of your life for the first half of your life from birth until about age 38-42.  This is time to breathing in – you learn and take in during this time.

Your Moon is what drives you
