Three emotional waves in Human Design

Riding your emotional waves

L’et’s get into the three emotional waves in the Human Design chart. First, you must have a defined (colored-in) Emotional Solar Plexus Center to have an emotional wave. If you are new to this, check your chart. See if the black triangle in this image is colored-in, in your chart. If so, you will have at least one emotional wave.

Each Channel from your defined Emotional Solar Plexus Center determines which wave(s) you experience.

Some individuals are pre-programmed to only experience mild emotional fluctuations, while others may experience extreme highs and lows with plateaus in between. Due to the wave-like nature of our emotions, it can be easy to confuse the natural low points with depression. If you are emotionally defined, depression can become a challenge if you are looking for a reason why you are feeling down.

Negative emotions often have a bad reputation in our culture. However, feeling melancholic is a natural and important part of the creative process. It allows for different perspectives. Everyone’s emotional frequency has a unique rhythm; some have daily ups and downs, while others have longer periods of stability with occasional dips.

Understanding your emotional patterns can help you make healthier decisions and provide insight into how long it may take to gain emotional clarity on an issue.

So, here’s the deal with the three waves of the Emotional Solar Plexus Center.

The defined Emotional Solar Plexus has 3 waves with cycles of emotions that go from feeling high/good (hopeful, inspired) and to cycles where you feel low (melancholy, introspective).

You are designed to have inner cycles of integration and contemplation and outer cycles of creativity, expression and sharing. Emotional energy isn’t any different than something like getting your period…you will have an emotional cycle in your energy field. It happens. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just a thing. Don’t judge or question it. Don’t ask yourself “what’s wrong with me?”, nothing is wrong with you.

In the chart

there are three emotional waves: individual, collective and tribal

3 Emotional Waves

1. Individual

Individual emotional wave in Human Design includes Channel 12-22 and Channel 39-55
If you have Channel 12/22 or Channel 39/55 defined, you have an individual emotional wave. This wave is the most extreme of the three waves and originates from within yourself. It involves swinging between high highs and low lows, which can be confusing and cause personal pain if not understood. This swing isn’t inherently bad; it represents a shift from outward creative energy to inward reflective energy. You can work with it once you know where you are on the wave. Consider getting projects done or trying something new when on the creative high. When on the inward low, care for yourself, like curling up with a cup of tea and a good book. The challenge arises when you get stuck in a negative vibe on the low side of the wave. Instead, nurture your energy wherever you are.

2. Collective

If you have defined channel 41/30 or channel 35/36, you will experience the collective wave. This wave slowly climbs like a roller-coaster, then quickly plummets, only to start climbing again. If you have the collective wave, it’s important not to make impulsive decisions. Take the time to ensure that a decision feels right to avoid making a self-destructive choice accidentally.
the collective wave has a slow climb and a steep fall similar to how a roller-coaster works

3. Tribal

If you have Channel 40/37, 19/49, or 59/6, you will experience the tribal wave. It may not feel very emotional and only noticeable when you have a relationship problem, challenge, or pain. The tribal waves are small unless something significant happens in your interpersonal relationships, such as with kids, marriage, partner, or parents.

No matter your wave, if you are emotionally defined, wait for emotional clarity before making any decisions.

Make sure to consistently say “yes” to your decision without fluctuating between “yes” and “no.” If you say “yes” before you are ready, you might commit to something you don’t really want to do, or you may find yourself wavering during the activity, just as you did during the decision-making process. You are ready when you can confidently say “yes” with a peaceful calm.

how to know when to say yes or no with your emotional wave

Manifestors should wait for emotional clarity before informing and taking action. This is part of riding the emotional wave. Generators/MGs should wait for emotional clarity before responding. Projectors should sleep on their invitation until they are sure it is right for them. Reflectors cannot be emotionally defined.

Emotionally defined individuals feel a sense of internal “click” when they have emotional clarity and are ready to take action. Wait for emotional clarity before taking action to avoid making hasty emotional decisions that you may regret later.

Wrap up

You will always experience emotional waves, but you can manage them with your mind and your actions.

How do I know where I am on my wave?

The emotional cycle varies for each person and is affected by other parameters in the chart. Some individuals have deeply rhythmic cycles, displaying predictable patterns of emotions. Certain people experience long cycles, with low emotions in winter and high emotions in summer, while others have short cycles that can be a day or a week. Some individuals have no discernible rhythm or predictability in their emotional cycles.

There is an exercise you can do to understand your emotional patterns: maintain a daily log for several months and look for emerging patterns.

Focusing on your emotional energy, especially when you are feeling low, can influence the nature of your emotional state. By
directing your energy towards the low feeling, you can prolong and intensify it.

However, you are not at the mercy of your emotions. You will always have ups and downs, but you can take control by recognizing and accepting these cycles. Instead of feeling like a victim of your emotions, you can choose to nurture yourself during low periods and appreciate the depth of creative energy that comes with melancholy.

By shifting your focus, you can move through these low periods more quickly and spend less time in them. Ultimately, this allows you to experience fewer extreme highs and lows. Embracing and accepting your emotional waves allows for a more balanced and fluid experience of happiness.

**Tip for anyone with more than one of the waves: If you don’t like your mood…just wait a minute, it will change. 😊
